The powers that be have been notified....
So now I can tell you...
I'm leaving ASU effective June 20! I've accepted the Director position at The Writer's Center, a literary nonprofit community center, in Bethesda, MD!
For those of you keeping score, this is my 18th move in 13 years. At roughly 2300 miles, it tops my previous record of carting sticks of furniture 1750 miles from MN to AZ. This time I'm pretty much taking books and clothes, and that's about it.
Never a dull moment here at kinemapoetics.
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYAY! Although boo that you won't be here all summer.
ReplyDeleteYay! Congrats and I know you'll be stellar at the new job!
ReplyDeleteThe Writer's Center is a great place. I was first there back in the early 1980s, & they have had many great programs & terrific writers (OK, a bunch of them have been my friends). You are a great fit there. And you will love D.C.! It's really, really exciting there.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't know one of my oldest friends, Richard Peabody of Gargoyle Magazine & Paycock Press, look him up. He's a terrific person, a native D.C. person who's been publishing great stuff for over 30 years now.
Wow, this is even more terrific than I expected. I am excited for you and for them. Congratulations.
Wow. That's wonderful! Congratulations! (though it's sad to think of you going to the other side of the country)
ReplyDeletewell, arright then, maybe I'll have to make a trip up there from Richmond!

ReplyDeleteCongrats, Charlie! I'll be up in the DC area this fall, so I might just have to come calling.
ReplyDeleteHoly hell! We're going to be neighbors!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Charlie. You have no idea how excited I am to hear this.
Charlie:
ReplyDeleteComing late to the party, but this is just fantastic news!
I am thrilled for you.
Felicidades! I'll prepare the East Coast for your arrival.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, man! If you ever take a trip to Boston, I'll buy the drinks.
ReplyDeleteWow- this is HUGE!!! I fall behind reading blogs just a few days and then all of this happens!!! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
Well you know how I feel. I am so happy for you, but so sad for me. I will miss you terribly. Who will borrow my top, in your absence?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Charlie! I will visit you, and you will love DC--some of the best friends and food and haircuts in the world. I'll hook you up. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteAnd when you need to get away (if they let you take any vacation time!), you're very close to Rehomo -- er, Rehoboth Beach. And not *that* far from Provincetown. :)
Sounds like a terrific, if terrifying, life change for you.
Congratulations on the new position and the big move! Enjoy the East Coast :)
ReplyDeleteWAHOO, oh you will have barrels and buckets more fun than in Tempe. Huzzah!
ReplyDeleteI lived happily in DC during the Marion Barry/crack years....in Bethedsa, actually, and worked at Olsson's Books & Records which was then just down the street from the WC.
Where I first met Joseph Brodsky, then unhappily poet laureate ("I sit at my desk; / My life's grotesque.") and later my teacher.
Party up and down Dupont Circle for me--wave hi to the 9:30 Club and don't forget: national museums are air-conditioned in summer and they are not only full of art but they are FREE.
Go you!
pick me up in manhattan and we'll marry off in mass.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! Sounds like a cool job. Now you'll be an East Coaster.
